BARBADOS TRIDENTS returned to winning ways and moved two points clear in the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 Cricket Competition.
Last night at Sabina Park, Tridents defeated hosts Jamaica Tallawahs by 17 runs.
Two outstanding performances – 59 not out by captain Kieron Pollard and a hat-trick from Robin Petersen – rocked the Tallawahs to set up the victory.
Tallawahs lost free-swinging captain Chris Gayle in the third over and two overs later, Peterson made his impact on the match.
On the first ball of his spell, Chris Lynn was bowled, dragging an inside edge onto the stumps. On the next delivery, Pollard took a beauty of a catch to dismiss Mahela Jayawardene.
In came Jermaine Blackwood who faced just four balls before he was back in the dugout. No runs came off the first two, two runs to cover got him off the mark and then he was bowled, leaving Jamaica on 36 for four.
A 67-run partnership between Chadwick Walton and Andre Russell steadied the innings, but once Walton fell, the chase stuttered and Jamaica were short of the required target.
Earlier, the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel helped the Tridents stay on top the standings after beating the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots by six wickets.
Dwayne Bravo celebrates the fall of another wicket.
