Green truck to the rescue

MANY OF THE PILES of garbage are gone from in and around The City and at least one Christ Church community today.

As industrial action by unionised workers of the Sanitation Service Authority seems set to head into its second week with the possibility of garbage piles getting larger, residents of neighbourhoods in Parish Land, in the constituency of Christ Church East, represented by Minister of the Environment Dr Denis Lowe, had the welcome sight of a dark green garbage truck rolling through the streets.

The truck bore the logo of the SSA and the slogan “We collect paper, plastic”.

Two men, with their fluorescent vests, were quickly moving from house to house, throwing the bags of piled up refuse into the back of the truck. It was around 10 a.m.

When asked by the DAILY NATION for whom they were working, a crew member replied they were with the SSA.  (HLE)
