HEADS OF GOVERNMENT from several Caribbean islands were in Barbados for the CARICOM meeting at the same time the Canadians and the Americans here were celebrating their respective independence anniversaries. The social diary was therefore packed for those who make the invitational lists on these occasions.

Social Scene popped in at the Barbados Hilton for a fleeting glimpse of the Prime Ministers, presidents and others in prominent positions in the region, mixing and mingling, and then it was off to the Embassy of the United States of America where independence anniversary celebrations were in full swing.

Host Ambassador Larry Palmer extended US-style hospitality at a reception where music, some US specialty foods and lots of merriment were the order of the night.
