THE BARBADOS REVENUE AUTHORITY’S (BRA) attempt to introduce option forms to Customs and Excise Department employees yesterday resulted in scores of customs officers walking off the job and pledging protest action until their proposed transition to the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) is fully ventilated with their trade union.
“There has been no negotiations on the issue, so you cannot have transition before negotiations,” a senior customs officer told the DAILY NATION yesterday following a heated meeting with the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) at its Dalkeith headquarters where a number of disgruntled customs employees aired their grievances.
The latest development was triggered when senior customs officers were invited to a meeting yesterday morning in Warrens with correspondence stating that the meeting would have been chaired by the acting comptroller of customs.
