Fire service recruit bar

MANY BARBADIANS want to join the Barbados Fire Service (BFS) but the service cannot recruit them.

It’s as a result of an almost decade-old civil suit, alleging supersession, in the island’s law courts that is hampering the service’s ability to augment its ranks with new staff.

This has been revealed by Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Ricardo Gittens, who noted no recruits  had joined the BFS since 2007.

Gittens was speaking to the Daily Nation after attending a church service, along with members of the service’s Training Unit and 28 recruits in their Junior Cadet Programme, at the 185 year-old St Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Providence, Christ Church, last weekend.
