BARBADOS BEACH CLUB is saving $22 000 each month after making the switch to photovoltaic energy and energy efficient products.

Word of this comes from managing director Felix Broome who took officials of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Division of Energy on a tour of the hotel on Thursday.

The hotel has benefited from a $1.5 million loan as part of the Energy Smart Fund Programme.

So far 200 photovoltaic panels that produce 50 kilowatts of energy have been installed along with energy efficient bulbs and appliances.

Broome said the hotel has been unable to make a dent in its water bill however, since harvesting of rain water can only be used for irrigation. (LK)
