Worrell got it wrong

FACTS STATED in the June Economic Review by the Central Bank do not support the analysis of Governor Dr DeLisle Worrell.

This charge was made by Opposition spokesman on the economy, Dr Clyde Mascoll, following release of the review this week.

“First, the foreign reserves declined by $124 million between June 2014 and 2015,” Mascoll said. “This decline came in the face of lower payments for fuel imports of $171 million, which should have boosted the foreign reserves.

“In addition, it was reported that the country enjoyed its best period of quarterly tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2015, yet, the foreign reserves declined then and the decline continued in the second quarter.” (AB)
