BARBADOS’ CUSTOMS and Excise Department was given a failing grade on most areas of its operations by international assessors in 2011.
In fact, of 86 areas examined by the international team, Customs and Excise scored zero in 81. Of the remaining five assessment areas, the department scored between 3.85 per cent and 47 per cent.
The Customs Assessment Evaluation was undertaken in association with the International Monetary Fund, the Canadian International Development Agency and Supporting Economic Management In The Caribbean, an agency financed by the World Bank.
