SANITATION SERVICE AUTHORITY (SSA) workers have been making much of little for a long time, says the president of the agency’s unionised workers, Hugh Smith.

He said they have been bending over backwards to carry out their tasks.

He noted that the SSA has two official shifts (6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.) but because of the inadequacy of vehicles, some workers, rather than turn up for work and remain idle or simply be sent back home because of the unavailability of vehicles, have added a third shift starting at 1 a.m. to ensure collections are made.

Smith said the public’s only interest was to have their garbage removed, which he appreciated, but “to give the impression we are not worth our salt is unfortunate”.  (ES)
