THE $700 million waste-to-energy Cahill Energy project may be roundly rejected if significant changes are not made.
That position was put forward by president of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Tracey Shuffler, who based her assessment on reviews of the proposed plant.
She said while there might be a waste-to-energy solution that could suit Barbados’ needs, too many questions remained unanswered by Cahill on the issues of capacity, cost, and environmental and technological compatibility.
“While there is nothing wrong with being on the leading edge of technology, we also need not use the proverbial sledgehammer to kill an ant,” she said yesterday at the BCCI’s business luncheon at Hilton Barbados Resort.
