Bajans ‘not doing justice’

BARBADIANS ARE NOT DOING JUSTICE to the struggles that many of those who fought for emancipation from slavery went through.

This view was expressed yesterday by Pan Africanist David Comissiong.

He said he did not feel satisfied that justice was being done to the sacrifices and to the vision of a new society that Bussa, Clement Payne and Israel Lovell and all who gave their lives fighting to destroy the oppressive slave system in Barbados.

Comissiong, who was speaking at the Emancipation Day programme held by the Pan African Coalition of Organisations at Emancipation Statue yesterday morning said, “We are falling far short of that vision and therefore commemoration of Emancipation Day should be a wake-up call for all Barbadians that we have to do better.
