How Derby could be improved

THE ANNUAL MASSY UNITED INSURANCE BARBADOS DERBY remains a favourite among locals and visitors.

The running of the event eight days ago produced a fair turnout and many expressed satisfaction in spite of observations by some that interest in the race was on the decline.

“The Derby will not lose its appeal to an ardent horse racing fan but we must have proper imported stock and breeding of horses must be improved to add to the quality of the race,” said Roy, a long-standing race fan who also made other suggestions.

“We need a track and the amenities at the Garrison are not enough. The track is outdated. It should be left-handed because most tracks in the world and the West Indies are left-handed.”
