WHEREVER ONE LOOKED on Monday, it was feathers, feathers and more feathers.
In various forms and fashions, the vast majority of costumed masqueraders in the Republic Bank Grand Kadooment were bedecked in pieces adorned with an assortment of feathers of various sizes, styles and colours.
This growing feature of the annual jump-up parade has ruffled the feathers of quite a few – most recently veteran bandleader Gwyneth Squires.
Lamenting that Crop Over was “deteriorating”, she maintained that with 30 years of participation in the festival, she preferred to concentrate on design in her costumes, rather than have the accent on feathers.
“Everybody bring feathers, but I am not bothered by the feathers,” she said.
However, if the bright looks on the faces of these and other revellers was anything to go by, they were not in the least bothered by the concerns, as they enjoyed the last lap of Crop Over 2015. (BW)
