AFTER DOMINATING the tables at the Carifta Chess Championships on home turf four months ago, Barbados are looking to make a mark at a higher level over the next two weeks.

A 17-player contingent will be heading to Trinidad today to compete in the annual Trinidad and Tobago Chess Carnival and the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Youth Chess Championships.

Barbados’ main medal hopes at the CAC Championships will be FIDE master Orlando Husbands, who will be competing in the Under-18 division; former Pan American scholastic Under-15 champion Allon Richards and Bryan Prescod.

Husbands, the Under-20 Carifta gold medallist and the island’s highest rated player among seniors and juniors, could be in line to gain the title of International master should he secure a gold medal. (HG/PR)
