FLYING FISH & COU COU: Round table on edge

SOME COUNCILORS of the round table are publicly asking the Pouting Princess what she is doing to clean up the group of wise men who give their time in midweek.

These insiders have stated that it is wrong to have those who no longer toil daily for their sustenance to be the chief advisers on matters which affect those who must still toil daily. So in an effort to have an organisation like that which she demands of others, then she must start a clean-up exercise.

So those who no longer contribute to social security nor pay as they earn should continue to give of their yeoman service to the house of Solidarity. But by month-end they should not be asking for a show of support from comrades all.

It is going to be a challenging period for the Pouting Princess who may not see many people she wants to see at the end of this month. Of course, the general from the House of Horatio will be there to give his major, the Princess, full support.

Freeness too far

PROMOTERS ACROSS BARBADOS are real happy Crop Over is over. There is one big headache which became very apparent and real this just ended festival.

The “give me” and “hand outreach” attitude of many, many Barbadians was very obvious. People who could well afford the ticket price were ’bout the place begging for tickets to this show and the next show. It was something for nothing and perhaps something for something.

One promoter said it seems to be the new thing in Barbados. People don’t care if you have to pay VAT on free tickets or not – they simply want a freeness. In one instance, a big-up wanted three tickets – one for spouse, offspring and himself.

Indeed, some clever better off, high-salaried people even told one promoter of a popular annual fete to draw up a list of those comps and leave it at the door. Don’t issue any tickets.

This freeness mentality was also very evident during even the recent T-20 cricket.

It will be interesting to see what happens next year.

Season for silver

SOME PEOPLE are only wearing silver jewellery this month, given their strong beliefs that the signs are correct.

It all has to do with astrology since Saturn is ruling this month, which means that Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter – the other planets visible to the eye alone – all are hiding in the glare of evening or morning twilight throughout August.

And many of those with strong views on the matter say it’s all because this month will have five Mondays, five Saturdays and five Sundays, and this happens only once every 823 years.
