BARBADOS GEMS will play for one of the cellar positions at the Netball World Cup after two more losses over the last two days.

Barbados needed to finish second in Pool H to playoff for positions 9 to 12, but successive losses to Scotland and Fiji will see them in the group for 13 to 16.

On Tuesday, Scotland beat Barbados for the first time in six attempts at this level, winning 37-34 and on Wednesday at Netball Centre, Sydney, Barbados lost 48-37 to Fiji.

Against Fiji, Barbados ran out of steam in the third quarter, moving from a position to possibly upset the higher ranked side, to complete defeat.

Trailing 23-19 at the half, the Gems scored only three goals in the third quarter and Fiji pulled away to lead 37-22. Despite winning the final quarter 15-11, the damage had already been done.

The next match is against Sri Lanka, who are also winless.
