NEXT YEAR’S SCHOOLS’ athletic championships may well be held at the University of the West Indies.

Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley told the media the Ryan Brathwaite Track was under consideration as an alternative since the National Stadium may not be in use.

“We do recognise in the interim we have to have a way of hosting the NAPSAC (National Primary Schools’ Athletics Championships) and BSSAC (Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships).

“We may very well have to bring in some temporary seating . . . we are also looking at the possibility of using the Usain Bolt track at UWI. We are looking at all possibilities to ensure that NAPSAC and BSSAC can be held within the timeframe they are normally held,” he said.

Lashley was speaking today at a sports day for participants in the national summer camps, held at the National Stadium. This year was the first time the zones were represented in an orderly way and the event at the stadium was the finals, following preliminaries at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex. (CA)
