‘Better reasons for reform’

A RETIRED JUDGE SAYS going the route of a republic is not enough reason for Barbados to embark on constitutional reform.

Rather, Leroy Inniss said, the Constitution should only be reviewed if far-reaching changes are being considered.

“Things could be just as they are today if that’s the only change that you make,” he said. The only major difference in becoming a republic would be having a president in place of the Governor General as the head of state, he noted.

The legal luminary made the comments at the Rockfield Community Centre, St Lucy, on Saturday during the second in the public legal education lecture series Your Rights Under The Constitution, organised by the Impact Justice Project. (WILLCOMM)
