Toughest cup

COACH Anna Shepherd says this year’s Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia, was the toughest she has ever attended.

The team returned home yesterday afternoon with a disappointing 13th place, suffering defeats in their first five matches.

“It was really rough. The level of competition was good. Hard from the point of view that we couldn’t afford to go in early . . . . We got in on a Thursday and had to play on a Friday. So the girls were still very jet-lagged,” said a tired-looking Shepherd, who came through the arrivals hall of the Grantley Adams International Airport in a wheelchair.

The next World Cup will be held in England in 2019, and Shepherd hinted that for Barbados to do well the domestic game would have to be played on a wooden court.
