Danny now a Category Three hurricane

HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration indicate Danny is now a Category Three hurricane.

At 2 p.m. the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said maximum winds are now estimated to be 115 mph (185 km/h) with higher gusts.

No additional intensification is expected, as Danny is moving into an area of unfavorable upper-level winds, and a weakening trend is expected to begin later today. 

No watches or warning have been put in place.

At 11 a.m. the centre of Danny was located near latitude 14.0 degrees north, longitude 48.2 degrees west or about 930 miles (1 495 kilometres) east of the Leeward Islands.

The hurricane is moving toward the west-northwestat near ten miles per hour and this motion is expected to continue through tonight.  A turn toward the west is expected on Saturday or Saturday night. (PR/NB)
