THERE will be a two-horse Barbadian invasion on the Massy Independence Day race programme at the Santa Rosa Park in Arima, Trinidad, at month end.

Last year’s Massy United Insurance Barbados Derby winner Voldemort and this year’s champion horse Poetic Licence are set to race on the August 31 card.

Bills Inc., a partnership of George Elias, Philip Moseley and Geoffrey Bynoe, with the support of sponsors Massy United Insurance, will be sending the horses to the twin-island republic next week.

Voldemort will contest the feature Grade 1 Independence Cup over 1 800 metres against the top Trinidadian horses on turf. Poetic Licence will race in the supporting feature, The Grade 2 Gleneagle Fillies Guineas for three-year-old fillies over 1 750 metres on the main track.

Both Derby winners are under the care and guidance of champion trainer Victor Cheeseman, while top Canadian-based jockey Patrick Husbands has been contracted to ride both horses.
