CUSTOMS OFFICERS are hopping mad with Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith’s comments that “officials” at Barbados’ ports of entry might be assisting with smuggling illegal guns into the island.

“The police continue to implicate Customs officers in the importation of guns . . . The commissioner has made his statements in a public forum and should be challenged or replied to via the same public forum,” CESS News, a newsletter attached to Customs officers said in a release yesterday.

It added: “We have to respond to the commissioner’s statement because this is reflecting badly on the department.
