Mackie surfs to victory at Virginia Beach

BARBADIAN Dane Mackie is celebrating a victory at the East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC) which concluded on Saturday at Virginia Beach in the United States.

The 18-year-old won the 18-29 men’s short board division in an international field at the championships, which attracted over 300 professional and amateur surfers.

Mackie dominated the division and progressed through the heats in knee to thigh high waves to emerge champion.

The Barbadian, who is sponsored by Digicel, Lost Enterprises, Vestal and Blackline, said he was thrilled with the win and will next be heading for a World Surf League competition in North Carolina.
