DEAR CHRISTINE: Might lose him if I don’t get pregnant

Share post:

Dear Christine,

I AM 24 years old and have been seeing a man for the past two years. He is 26 and is a loving and kind person, who already has a four-year-old child. I have been trying for the past year to have a child with him and have not been successful.

I would like to know what to do, as I get very sad at times just thinking about it. If I do not have a child with this man, I feel almost certain that he will leave me. I pray many times to get pregnant, but nothing has happened. What can I do?

Dear Tiffany,

I’m afraid that you have the wrong outlook on life and relationships. Getting pregnant for this man will not bind him to you or make him stick you with in any way. Can’t you see that he has already fathered a child with another woman and even though the child is a mere four years old, he has seemingly moved on?

There are thousands of children who are growing up in homes without fathers. In fact, sometimes before the children are born, the relationship between the father and mother is over.

Do not think for one moment that I am trying to discourage you from having a child of your own. I am not. I am trying to make you see things from a practical viewpoint.

I’m sure there is a good reason why your prayers have gone unanswered up to this point. However, if it will put your mind at ease, you can seek the advice of a doctor to make sure there are no physical reasons why you cannot get pregnant – whether now, or in the future when perhaps you are married and raising a child under the same roof with your husband.
