Not good enough, Barbados Revenue Authority!

This was the general sentiment expressed by frustrated taxpayers queuing up at BRA offices yesterday to beat today’s deadline to get a ten per cent discount on land tax bills.

There were long lines at BRA payment offices in the Treasury Building and Roebuck Street in The City; Oistins, Christ Church and Holetown, St James. Almost everywhere complaints could be heard from people forced to stand in line for hours to pay land tax bills.

One irate customer was especially vocal in criticism of the new revenue collection agency, charging it had not made “proper arrangements” to collect taxes.

At the Roebuck Street office, the line snaked down three flights of stairs while three cashiers worked systematically processing payments. To facilitate the flow of traffic, one BRA employee moved along the line collecting cheque payments to assist in speeding up the process.
