VOB focuses on Oistins’ history

WHEN STARCOM NETWORK Inc. hosted its VOB Everywhere in Oistins this week, the talk of the town was its history.

The Berinda Cox Fisheries Complex was highlighted as a focal point of the fishing community. Margaret Cox, daughter of the late Berinda Cox who was referred to as “the Queen of the market”, reminisced about the contribution the matriarch of the family made to the community. She said that although her mother “did not have much schooling” she knew her way around business.

Cox painted the picture of a community where love, warmth and the passion for food thrived. She reminisced about the fish market, the rum shop, the hardware store, fray cakes that were done by the Prescods and individuals who sold fish cakes to the fishermen from the community.
