PEOPLE IS SOMETHING ELSE HEAR? Now, duh got all kinds o’ gun play gine on all ovah Barbados. All kinds o’ people getting shoot up or killed all the time. All sorts o’ violence happening against the very tourists dat all o’ we depending pon and people could only jump up and carry on bout who saying something bout dem or who blaming dem or who doan like dem and a whole lot o’ crap.
The other day, the general secretary o’ the Democratic Labour Party, George Pilgrim was in the papers lambasting the media people and whoevah else. He say dat the DEMS cahn do enough good tuh satisfy the thirst o’ some elements in this society and dat while the party remained steadfast tuh its core philosophy of a sound social agenda, it continued tuh find itself at the end of much criticism.
When I read dat, I had tuh smile because I aint know what he expect at all. He nevah hear, tuh whom much is given, much is expected or required? Who dem expect people tuh talk bout? Wha’ the media people is Bajans and duh in the same boat as all the rest o’ we Bajans who smelling hell. Who he expect the people tuh criticize? Who he expect dem tuh blame? Duh cahn blame me, I is only a simple woman who does write a lil column and call a spade a spade.
I doan run nuh country, I doan make nuh decisions dat does affect a whole country in one way or the other. It is amazing how people does want the sweets all the time but then aint want tuh deal wid the bitter parts. It doan work so.
It is time dat people like George Pilgrim and the rest o’ the people in the Democratic Labour Party stop thinking bout duhselves and start looking after this country and its people. If ya’all cahn remember, leh me remind wunna: dat is what ya’all get put in there tuh do.
So if wunna cahn stan’ this kinda heat wunna gine have tuh get outta the kitchen, get a grip, get a valise or some kinda suitcase; in other words, get wid the programme.
Duh got another set o’ people who like duh believe dat nuhbody shouldn’t say anything dat might point a finger at some o’ dem. Like duh believe dat all o’ dem in there perfect. I aint know wha’ duh getting on suh igrant bout, duh aint got nuh perfect beings bout here or nuhwhere else.
I aint know wha’ duh want the man tuh say. I talking bout the Acting Commissioner of Police, Griffith when he say dat the guns got tuh be coming in at ports of entry and words tuh mean dat duh might be undetected fuh some reason or the other.
From what I see, I can’t remember reading the man saying dat all Custom people does turn a blind eye and leh the guns come in. If dem aint got nutten tuh hide, I aint see wha’ all o’ dem suh up in arms about.
Now, if all of a sudden ya hearing bout the lot gun violence all bout Barbados, not one place and not the next, morning noon and night and the gun runners got all types o’ high powered guns and ammunition, even more powerful than the ones the police got; where duh coming from and how duh getting in here and suh plentiful?
The acting commissioner right, duh gotta be coming from somewhere, wha’ he aint nuh dummy. Evahbody in Customs aint perfect, something wrong.
He aint stupid, he know duh got some bad apples in the police force too, look how many o’ dem get drag before the law courts in recent times. But the man got a job tuh do and a country tuh protect so I would tell all o’ wunna Customs people tuh be more vigilant and as long as wunna aint got nutten tuh hide, stop confusing wunna selves, shut up and leh the man do he job.
I bet if wha’ happen tuh the teacher fella did happen tuh one o’ wunna family members, wunna would be singing a different song. So instead o’ getting hot under the collar, I would suggest dat every law-abiding citizen try and cooperate wid the Royal Barbados Police Force and try and get the lot o’ foolishness under control.
