MESSAGES OF SUPPORT poured in for newly appointed West Indies Test captain Jason Holder.
The West Indies Cricket Board announced on Friday that the 23-year-old Barbadian, who also captains the One-Day team, would be taking over from Trinidadian Denesh Ramdin.
In addition to support for Holder, there were also calls for the rest of the team to step up and improve their overall performance.
Here is some of the reaction to Holder’s appointment.
David Kellman: Let’s support the new skipper. The players need to play with more fight. Guys like [Darren] Bravo that have been there need to be more consistent and stop throwing your wicket away. Everyone of the players needs to show more hustle in the field and between the wickets. We as fans need to support the young team. Let them know you support them, but demand the maximum effort. Good luck to the new captain.
George Brathwaite: Congratulations to Jason Holder. I am greatly encouraged and will continue to be supportive of all West Indies’ captains and teams.
Thomas Katt: Warm congrats to Jason. I wish him every success in his new role as Test captain. Yes, Ramdin is too reactive as a captain; and yes, he needs to step up his game as one of the more experienced bats. If he doesn’t perform on this tour he should be dropped altogether.
Claudette Clarke:Â Congratulations to Jason Holder. You have a big task ahead of you, but with the help of the Almighty you will be good. Give it your best shot.
Michael Doughty Sr: Congrats young man. Now we need every one to give him their full support and let’s get Windies cricket back to its rightful place in the cricketing world. We’ve been down for too long now.
Adrian Samuel: Congrats! We get beat with the old hands going and coming. Let’s hope the youngsters can rise to the occasion. My only problem, I would have exited the former skipper as well as I can see a situation similar to when Darren Sammy took over. The elder statesmen, including his predecessors, did not give their full support, causing rifts. [Shane] Dowrich should have been handed the gloves.
Rodney Holder:Â I am happy for you Jason and I wish you greater success in your role as captain of such a team. It is an honour.
Marcia Trotman:Â Congrats Mr Holder.
Princess Neferua:Â Congrats to Jason Holder. May he go on to do great things.
Otteen Farley:Â Congrats Jason, wishing you a long and successful career.
