Move to fill more than 100 Customs vacancies

THERE ARE MORE THAN 100 vacant positions in the Customs Department.

This was disclosed by Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler today who said the process of appointments had started in the department with the vacant positions being circularised.

For the past several months Customs officers had been resisting transfer to the Barbados Revenue Authority  (BRA) as they made certain stipulations on government including that the many acting positions be filled. However after consultation with the Workers Unions the process is finally underway.

Sinckler pointed out that the Unions and the BRA, as well as the Ministry of the Civil Service, had been able to come to an agreement on how the process should go forward.

He acknowledged that the vacant posts were significant but said that situation existed across the public service.

He also cautioned that the posts would be advertised across the public service.  (MB)
