St Lucia boosting room stock

CASTRIES – Minister for Tourism, Heritage, and Creative Industries Lorne Theophilus said recently his ministry had achieved its goal of boosting arrivals into the island.

The focus now, he said, was ensuring that Saint Lucia had the capacity to sustain stay over arrivals.

“What we are attempting right now is to increase our room stock so that we don’t platoon. In order to prevent that, we are trying to ensure that we can attract the necessary investment into the island which is going to lend itself to an increase in numbers.”

Minister Theophlius said the Ministry of Tourism wanted the visitor’s expectation to match reality.

“The Ministry of Tourism has embarked on an islandwide campaign whereby we are going to visit every site, every attraction, every hotel and institution that is associated with tourism. This will ensure there is a full understanding of the legislation and the benefits of the legislation, and it will spur the growth and development of these institutions,” he explained.

“We want to ensure that our standards are exactly what we expect them to be so that when we pitch ourselves to the wider world, that the visitor expectation is adequately matched by the visitor reality.” (PR)
