STRONG GUSTS of wind have flipped Stella Greene’s life upside down. When Tropical Storm Tomas swirled across the island five years ago, it shattered the walls of her two-bedroom Cambridge, St Joseph home, and as they crumbled, so did life as she knew it.
Instead of a welcome mat, two concrete bricks now lie in front a small “shack”, which was built of wood retrieved from their destroyed home.
Inside, the 63-year-old sat silently on a couch as her son, Jefferson, who lives with her along with another relative, spoke recently to the SUNDAY SUN on her behalf.
Dressed in his uniform, the postman sat on the edge of a bed looking about the room in frustration. He said he and his aunt’s boyfriend built the shack for temporary shelter after their roof was blown from above their heads.
