SCHOOL MEALS WORKERS, who at the beginning of this week went on a work-to-rule protesting changes to their work hours, will go back to their original shifts.
A statement from the Ministry of Education yesterday said the change was introduced after supervisors at three of the departments’ four centres expressed concerns about workers’ security.
“Management of the School Meals Department felt that they were accommodating the request of the supervisors at the three centres. However, given the dissatisfaction expressed by some workers, who seem to prefer working from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., management, in consultation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, has agreed that staff would revert to the original time,” it added.
The ministry explained that a little over a year ago, staff from Lancaster, St James; Country Road, St Michael and Harbour Road, St Michael, raised concerns about their safety and security following the end of their 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. shift.
