THE GROUND IS BROKEN and work has begun on a long awaited measure for safer crossing of the Spring Garden Highway.

Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley, a team of officials from that ministry, contractors Brathwaite’s Construction & Transport Services Ltd, and Member of Parliament Chris Sinckler yesterday toured the area, located almost opposite Weiser’s on the Bay.

Lashley said the plan was to implement a temporary measure consisting of pedestrian-controlled traffic lights, a ramp for the disabled and a pedestrian crossing. He said this would take around three to four weeks at a cost of $137 000. (CA)
