IT WILL BE UP TO SEANON WILLIAMS to determine Barbados’ fate in the final match of the Davis Cup Americas Zone Group 1 tie against Ecuador as Haydn Lewis is once again unable to take the court.
The decision to withdraw Lewis was made during the second set of Darian King’s match against Ecuador’s Emilio Gomez earlier this morning.
Non playing captain Kevin Yarde told reporters moments ago that Lewis had been advised to sit out the match to avoid further injury to his back.
Lewis has been battling recurring back problems and it was felt that he would have to retire should he force himself to play. He did not play in yesterday’s doubles.
Ecuador have also made a change and Gonzalo Escobar will play instead of Ivan Endara.
Earlier, Darian King gave it his all to defeat Ecuador’s Emilio Gomez 7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-1.
King won the marathon encounter in steaming conditions. It was the longest match of the tie, lasting two hours and 42 minutes. (PG)
