ARBOR DAY celebrations offer students more than a breath of fresh air.

Representative from the United Nations Development Programme, Katherine Blackman, said they encouraged children to engage with nature through the tree-planting activity and the observance was also an occasion to teach themĀ  invaluable lessons.

She was the guest speaker at Grantley Prescod Memorial Primary School in The Pine, St Michael yesterday, as the school observed Arbor Day for the sixth time. This yearā€™s theme was Trees: The Circle Of Life.

Blackman told the MIDWEEK NATION that in todayā€™s society children were often distracted by technology and were not sufficiently aware of the importance of the environment.
