AN ITEM OF NEWS from the BBC World Service on September 8, 2015, informed as that due to the current slowdown in the growth of the Chinese economy, that country now has some 70 million recently built, high-rise apartments which remain uninhabited.
The housing stock was constructed to accommodate an expected surge in their middle income population, that had been projected when their economy was growing at a staggering ten per cent (or more) per annum, but did not materialise.
Perhaps now is the time for China to offer refuge to some of the hundreds of thousands of Middle Eastern, Far Eastern and African people fleeing various domestic conflicts and their attendant miseries.
Even a token number of such refugees may prove to be politically prudent in the final analysis.
