Agard opting out of today’s BLP meeting

A SHOWDOWN IS ON in the Christ Church West constituency branch of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP).

It is pitting MP Dr Maria Agard against the hierarchy of her party, including Opposition Leader Mia Mottley.

Agard, who represents the traditional BLP stronghold in the House of Assembly, is unhappy with the way the party leadership intervened in last Sunday’s annual general meeting of the branch, which was abruptly halted.

To show her disapproval, she has vowed to be a no-show at today’s rescheduled meeting.

“I refuse to lend legitimacy to this meeting with my presence, and further, I have determined that I shall not recognise any executive appointed under these circumstances for the term 2015-2016,” Agard said in a news release yesterday. (GC)
