FORTY-FOUR DAYS is how long one-year-old Dakarai Shorey spent this year in Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, where he underwent two surgeries.
His mother Nyesha Jones said that since the Daily Nation highlighted the plight of the infant in February last year, he had undergone five surgeries – the most recent on June 8 and 15. All the operations occurred in the Florida hospital and were an attempt to correct abnormalities in his heart (cyanotic congenital heart disease) and related complications.
Jones said that her son was now doing well and she expressed thanks to the Barbadian public who made donations to their account at Scotiabank.
“Had it not been for them and their contributions, I don’t know where my son would have been right now. I don’t know if he would have had the amount of surgeries that he has had, if he would still be in the QEH [Queen Elizabeth Hospital] just lying in the bed.”
