DEAR CHRISTINE: He may not be worth the gamble

Dear Christine,

I AM in love with a man for the past two years. All things being equal, he is an okay guy but has an evil weakness; he loves to gamble.

He gambles on a weekly basis or sometimes two or three times a week – that I know of. I never found out about his gambling until late last year and we broke up as a result. Please notice that I said “I am in love” with this man because despite everything, I love him.

However, after he promised to stop gambling we went back together. It seems to be a vicious circle because he has started to gamble all over again. As a result, I’ve returned home to my parents.

He has developed the habit of calling me and asking me to come by some evenings to prepare his dinner, which I do. He even goes so far as to help me to sleep so in the morning I will cook for him before we go to work.

Please give this man some sound advice through your column. If he stops from gambling, I’m sure we’ll be able to make it together.

Dear K.P.,

It’s not easy for a gambler to stop gambling. No amount of advice I give will make him stop. What I’ll do however is give him credit for being a seasoned gambler who is in the winner’s row.

Can’t you see he has you doing all things he wants done, like cooking for him and sleeping over when it’s convenient? He sure is a winner.

If you are satisfied that he is addicted to gambling, I would suggest you not to take a gamble anymore on him. You’ll be taking a chance with your future. To marry or shack up with him would be a risk. I doubt very much that you would come out the winner.

– CHRISTINE
