THE BARBADOS UNION OF TEACHERS (BUT) and the Ministry of Education seem headed for another showdown. This time over the appointment of teachers who applied for permanent posts since 2013.

About six weeks ago Minister of Education Ronald Jones told the country that upwards of 400 temporary teachers would be appointed by the end of September, which was yesterday.

Noting that the union has been “bombarded” with calls from expectant teachers, BUT president Pedro Shepherd is giving the ministry until the end of today to make good on the appointments.

He is warning that “something will have to give”, if the teachers don’t have their letters in hand. (YB)
