VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS will be one of the hot topics at the national youth seminar later this month.

The Ministry of Education is holding activities for October – education month – and one of the major events will be the seminar on October 13 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

While violence will be one of the topics, acting deputy chief education officer Joy Adamson said they were looking to host a positive seminar full of ideas.

“We are allowing the secondary schools to come together and to share some of the positive things happening at their schools. We are inviting fourth and fifth form students to come together – I find nowadays we speak a lot about what is going wrong with education but I think we need to give the youth the opportunity to speak about some of the positives that are happening and how they think we can chart education over the next few years,” she said.
