THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION has missed two deadlines in as many days concerning teacher appointments and the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) is readying itself for some kind of response.

Speaking to the WEEKEND NATION last night after yesterday’s 4:30 p.m. deadline the union had given the ministry to respond to “the satisfaction of the over 900 teachers who applied for the vacant posts”, BUT president Pedro Shepherd said the union was moving into mobilisation mode.

“I would want to speak to the members who applied and to be guided by them. That could be as early as Monday,” he stated.

Prior to the start of the new school year Minister of Education Ronald Jones publicly stated that 400-plus temporary teachers, from some 900 who had applied for advertised positions since October 2013, would be appointed by the end of September. That deadline passed two days ago.
