Cyber bullying the ‘cause of girl fights’

CYBER BULLYING SEEMS to be a major spark that ignites fights between teen girls.

According to Saul Leacock, vice-president of the Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors, messages circulated on social media sites such as Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram which ridicule a girl or say something bad about their close friend or mother can usually result in retaliation.

“That kind of cyber bullying would more affect girls and their reputation because they are more concerned about their body image and how people see them. So if somebody paints them in the ‘wrong light’ they target that person with their anger and aggression,” said Leacock, the director of Impact Family Counselling Services.
