WHILE SOME FIRMS have seen a major increase in business resulting from the recent hike in crime, business leaders say that unless the rise is nipped in the bud, it can seriously hurt the island’s economy.
In separate interviews, chief executive officer of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, Sue Springer; acting president of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry Eddie Abed and president of the Barbados Private Sector Association (BPSA) Alex McDonald all lamented the effects of any crime wave.
Abed said there had been a definite increase in business for some security firms so the issue was a double-edged sword.
