AN IMMEDIATE RESPONSE system is being put in place to deal with water shortages affecting many communities across the authority.
Minister for Agriculture and Water Resource Management, Dr David Estwick this afternoon announced that water tanks would be stationed in appropriate areas, while the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) has placed orders for additional water tankers to help augment the supply.
“How we plan to execute this, by introducing within the catchment area that is being serviced by a particular reservoir that is being compromised, a series of community tanks into that area,” he told the media.
“These community tanks that will be delivered will be placed at particular locations within that community and these tanks will be then refilled . . . by the various water takers coming in to the area as opposed to people having to be running behind a water tanker to access water.”
The minister was flanked by BWA acting general manager, Dr John Mwansa and Charles Leslie, project manager in charge of capital works.
It is projected that some elements of the plan would be in place within a matter of days. (WILLCOMM)
