Little chance for independents

POLITICAL STRATEGIST Reudon Eversley does not believe independent candidates stand much chance in general elections in Barbados.

Eversley, a guest on Brasstacks Sunday on Starcom Network yesterday, was responding to a question about the challenge facing former prime minister Owen Arthur, the Member of Parliament for St Peter who opted to become an independent in July 2014, as well as others who chose to contest the polls alone.

He said history had shown that people who contested the general election needed the support of a party machinery.

However, he said independents could be successful under a revamped system in which funds would be allocated for road repairs and other projects in constituencies yearly. (WILLCOMM)
