ROMAN CATHOLIC Bishop Jason Gordon says boys are being disadvantaged in Barbados’ co-educational system.
As he dedicated the new St Francis Boys School building on the grounds of the Ursuline Convent on Collymore Rock, St Michael, yesterday, Gordon said because the Catholic organisation understood that “differentiated learning is a key component to education today, and “that boys are much more prone to learning challenges than girls are”, it had created a tertiary level school for boys.
This single-sex environment, he argued, was a more conducive environment in which boys could develop, rather than in the co-educational set-up.
Gordon charged that the education system throughout the Caribbean “disadvantages boys in a very significant way”…
