THE Barbados Fire Service has been busy in the north of the island – not putting out fires but saving chickens, pigs, cows and other livestock.
For the past two weeks, the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) has been forced to lean on the Fire Service to provide water to farmers with animals in St Peter and St Lucy because of the water outages in those parishes.
The BWA’s communications specialist Joy-Ann Haigh told the MIDWEEKNATIONyesterday that the situation had reached crisis proportions in those parishes, with livestock farmers crying out for help for their animals.
“We have asked the Fire Service to lend assistance to farmers only because of their animals, but they are not delivering any water to residences,” she stressed.
