THERE IS A LOT MORE to the Barbados Prison Service than may meet the eye.

During an open day yesterday as part of Prison Week, the DAILY NATION spoke to a few specialised officers at the prison to see what they do.

McAnderson Wiltshire works as part of the emergency response team, wearing a distinctive dark uniform. He said they basically were the prison’s security.

“We deal with any fights which may break out; we do escorts and handle any prison breaches. We also search cells and try to stamp out as much contraband as possible,” he said, adding that his was a job where you had to have a mind for.
