DARIAN KING’S dream run at the Fairfield Pro Challenger tennis tournament in California continued yesterday when he defeated Canadian Peter Polansky to reach the third round.

King lost the first set but came back to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the first round he had defeated the No. 2 seed Ryan Harrison of the United States 6-4, 7-5 on Monday.

The win cemented King’s reputation as a giant-killer as he had just last week defeated the British number two Kyle Edmund in the opening round of the Sacramento Challenger. Edmund was ranked 102 in the world at the time and he was the highest ranked player that King had ever defeated.

Coming into the first round match Harrison was ranked 104th in the world with 158 pro matches under his belt, compared to King, who was ranked 205th – having not even played in 20 professional matches.
